4 CAPRI 22’s (CATALINA)
The CATALINA 22 is one of the most popular sailboats ever in anything close to this size,. 15,000 boats sold (2009)
It has been built in different plants around the world..(Known in Australia as the BOOMAROO 22.)
A fixed keel version introduced in the early 1970’s Draft: 3.5ft; Displacement: 2,490 lbs.; Ballast: 800 lbs.
A ‘New Design’ was introduced in 1986 (featuring an opt. winged keel), and MARK II in 1995.
The CATALINA 22 SPORT was released in 2003. (Originally called the CAPRI 22 swing keel.)
From a new “fairer” mold though the hull design is the same as the original CATALINA 22.

Dimensions shown here are for the standard rig (pre-1988).
A swing keel version was also available: draft (max.) 5.0′ (min.) 2.66′; ballast 1,500lbs; displacement 4,150 lbs.
Wing keel version: draft 2.83’/.86m; ballast 1,750 lbs; displacement 4,400 lbs

The CATALINA 27 is one of several models from this builder that has achieved historic popularity. In it’s first 3 years of production nearly 1500 boats were sold. Total production was 6662 hulls. Offered originally with a std. outboard well, in 1973, Catalina offered an inboard Atomic 4 engine as an option and over the years a number of other engines were available including a Universal Diesel.
Built in Canada under license.
In 1991 it was replaced with the CATALINA 270.

The first in a series of 3 Cal 27s, all by Lapworth, but different designs.
(The later versions are generally referred to as CAL 2-27, and CAL 3-27.)
An IOR 1/2 ton version was called the CAL T/2.
Auxiliary Power/Tanks (orig. equip.)
Based on the same hull as the NEWPORT 28-1, this version featured an updated rudder and keel as well as completely redesigned coach roof and interior. The NEWPORT 28 was hugely successful with more than 1000 boats built (including both versions).
