Becoming better sailors involves so many things - often of a very exciting and adventurous nature - such as HOW NOT TO KINK THE FUEL LINES...
It's super important and very helpful to be aware of what we are talking about when we talk about tilting up the outboards and not kinking the fuel line on the engine bracket handle. Below are some images to make this clear. Kinking the fuel line will lead to the line breaking and, well, not having a functioning outboard will definately lead to some unplanned for and potentially unwelcome "adventures"...
Position your engine just enough so that the fuel line will clear to the side of the engine bracket handle before tilting up. The shifter handle (which must be in forward for the release to allow for the engine to be tilted up) will come against the engine bracket handle and shift into neutral when it presses against the engine bracket handle - that's totally fine.
