Island Sailing’s Performance Racing Program promotes the growth of our members as sailors through an emphasis on seamanship and the Corinthian spirit with the coaching and training needed to get into sail boat racing.

Under the expert coaching of Kerry Poe from North Sails in Portland, as well as with our experienced skippers and other members, our members receive top-tier instruction and insights. Kerry Poe is a prominent figure in the sailing community of Portland, Oregon. He is the owner of North Sails Oregon, where he has worked since 1993. Kerry has an impressive sailing resume, having been a four-time member of the U.S. Sailing Team. His competitive achievements include narrowly missing the opportunity to represent the U.S. in the 470 Class at the 1996 Olympics, winning the 1991 U.S. Pan-Am Games qualifier, and participating in numerous World Championships in classes such as Laser II, 470, 505, and Melges 24.

Kerry has also made significant contributions to the sailing community beyond his competitive successes. He is a co-founder of the Columbia Gorge Racing Association (CGRA), an organization that has been pivotal in promoting small boat sailing events in the Columbia River Gorge since 1996. The CGRA is known for hosting national and international sailing events, including multiple championships, which have significantly boosted the local economy of Cascade Locks, Oregon.

In addition to his involvement with North Sails and CGRA, Kerry has extensive offshore sailing experience. He has competed in events such as the Pacific Cup, Oregon Offshore, Swiftsure, and the Van Isle 360. Kerry's expertise extends to big boat sailing, where he has achieved victories in various regattas in the Northwest, including the Leukemia Cup and Whidbey Island Race Week.

Overall, Kerry Poe's dedication to sailing and his contributions to the sport and local community have made him a respected and influential figure in the sailing world.

Racing reservations are made for you on your behalf by the club.
Allows you to still have your advanced reservation available for your fleet!

Year round racing opportunities (SOS) and any regattas when desired.
Opportunities for learning and growth as a potential racing skipper.
Special access to any Performance Seminars and other learning opportunities we organize.

How it works:

Upon adding the Performance Package to your membership, $30/per month will be added to your current membership rate and run concurrent with your existing membership term.

Good for all ISC racing which includes:

Monday Night Racing (March through September each year!)
ISC also covers all entrance fees for SYSCO-related racing events throughout the year including participation in Thursday night J/24 Class races with the local J/24 community, Sailing on Sundays, and more.
